Sciences Po visit to UCT: Strengthening ties for exciting Joint Degree Programmes

The University of Cape Town (UCT) recently welcomed a delegation from Sciences Po, France, as part of the ongoing discussions to advance the establishment of joint degree programmes. The visit, held from 11 to 13 February 2025, brought together key stakeholders from both institutions to strengthen institutional partnerships through continued academic collaboration.

The delegation from Sciences Po included:

  • Marie Azuelos, Deputy Vice President for International Affairs
  • Audrey Queyreyre, Manager, International Masters Admissions Procedure
  • Oumou Houmoud, International Affairs Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa

The host delegation from UCT included:

  • Quinton Johnson, PhD, Director International Office
  • Tracy Goslar, Manager: Partnerships, Mobility and Recruitment
  • Anna Selmeczi, Senior Lecturer and Programme Convener, African Centre for Cities
  • Musa Nxele, PhD Academic Director, Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance

The visit commenced when International Office Director Quinton Johnson, PhD, welcomed the Sciences Po colleagues to the International Office.

Discussions continued with the African Centre for Cities (ACC), where Anna Selmeczi, Senior Lecturer met with the delegation on urban governance and research synergies. Furthermore, engagements included meetings with the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment (EBE), followed by a visit to the Faculty of Commerce and Dean, Prof Suki Goodman.  An essential component of the visit involved discussions with UCT’s Admissions Office, to discuss admissions processes, credit transfers and administrative frameworks necessary for the successful joint degrees. A highlight of the visit was the engagement with Sciences Po students currently studying at the University of Cape Town. This session provided insights into their academic and mobility experiences. Additionally, the delegation held an in-depth discussion with Academic Director Dr Musa Nxele, faculty and staff at the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance.

UCT’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Mosa Moshabela outlined UCT’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and ensuring a seamless integration of the joint degree framework. Furthermore, the International Office Director Quinton Johnson, PhD, noted that this visit marked another step forward for both institutions in creating impactful research and education opportunities. Both universities look forward to the next phase of the partnership, in realising the vision of the joint degree programme, through which students will study in Paris and Cape Town.
